
Your content should be keyword rich. Some experts maintain that it should contain 10-12% keywords for strong Search Engine Optimization.
We use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool for a quick way to find key words that people are using to search for businesses or products. Let's say, for example, that we were looking for keywords associated with "Customer Service Consulting."
We're going to find the Google Keywords Tool by:
- First, open a new browser window and type "Google Ad Words" in the search bar. Or, use this link to go directly from here: Google Adwords Keyword Tool
- If you use the link, skip to number 4.
- From the results page we select "Keyword Tool" from the list of selections on the Google listing.
- Once into the Keywords tool, type in "Customer Service Consulting" and the results will show you dozens of words and phrases that have relevance to Customer Service Consulting.
- The column second from the right is Average Search Volume for the past year. Click on that column heading and the information will be sorted by search volume, highest to lowest.
- That gives you an idea of how many people are searching using those customer service-related key words each month.
When you plug in your own target key word or phrase, the Google Key Word Tool will tell you how much demand there may be in that particular niche of your field. Try this with your specialty, product, service or business. Then, use those keywords with high popularity in the content of your site. The search engine web crawlers and spiders that index your site will display your site when as a result of the search for appropriate keywords. There are lots of factors that affect your page rank, but a key one is the number of relevant keywords that match the search.
As a rule of thumb, a keyword or keyword phrase with over 3,000 searches is a strong niche. We always find it fascinating to study the keyword activity to see if we can spot niches where the demand is high but the advertising competition is average to low. That gives you a hint that that niche plenty of interest but lower supply of websites catering to it. The Google keyword tool is great to use to see how popular your area/s of specialty could be. Before you leave Google, print some keyword lists and keep them for later use.
When writing your content, use as many keywords as you can without affecting the value or readability of the content.
